Welcome to The Bird Lab @SUSTech

Studying avian cognition, behavior, and neuroscience through innovative experimental approaches.

About the Lab

We are a neurobiology research team intrigued by the cognitive intelligence of avian taxa, including songbirds and parrots. Our laboratory is affiliated with the Department of Medical Neuroscience, School of Medicine, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). We mainly employ songbirds (notably zebra finches) as core animal models, paired with cross-species comparative analyses, to explore three core research themes: 1) Cellular and circuit mechanisms supporting vocal learning; 2) Neural mechanisms underlying the long-term stability of acquired behaviors; 3) Neural substrates underpinning high-order avian cognitive functions.
